MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD AUGUST 16, 2012

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following members were present: Kathy Booziotis, Mike Neill, Linda Flowers, William Sherwood, Vicky King, Francis Tsung.The following member was absent: Mike Durr

Also present were: Stephen Murphy, CCHSEA Represented, Steve Kosco, Carbondale Times Newspaper, Daniel Booth

President Sherwood declared a quorum present and the regular meeting of August 16, 2012, was called to order.

Minutes: The minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of July 19, 2012, were approved as distributed.

Old Business: There were no old business items.

Introduction of New Faculty: Mr. Booth introduced the following new faculty members to the Board:Stephanie Finke, Assistant Principal; Brandon Lukes, English Teacher; and Melanie Nelson, CTE Health Occupations Teacher.

Introduction of School Resource Officer: Mr. Booth introduced the new School Resource Officer, Barry Bayles to the Board.

Public Comments: There were no public comments.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to pay the remaining bills for the month of July, 2012; and, those available for payment for the month of August, 2012. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Committee Reports: There were no committee reports.

Bids and Quotes: There were no bids or quotes.

Presentation of the 2012-13 Tentative Budget for Public Display: Motion by King, seconded by Tsung, to receive the tentative budget for the 2012-13 school year, place it on display for the public at the district office, the high school office, and the Carbondale Public Library, and to hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Roll call: Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Approval of Additional May, 2012 Graduates and August Graduates: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to approve the following students for official graduation as presented:

Designated Representatives for 2013 Board of Education Election Duties: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Neill, to appoint Lucia Kelso as the designated Board of Education representative to handle the filing and processing of petitions for the 2013 Board of Education election, and to name Michelle Lewis to act in lieu of Lucia Kelso in matters pertaining to the Board of Education election. Roll call: Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Flowers and King voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

CCHS District 165 FY12 Compensation Report: The Board received a copy of the CCHS District 165 FY12 Compensation Report for their review.

Resignations: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Booziotis, to accept the following resignations as presented:

a. Resignation of Darryl Cox (Assistant Principal) effective August 3, 2012.

b. Resignation of Marva Wall (part-time Cook's Helper) effective August 6, 2012.

c. Deloris May (2/6-time Latin Teacher) effective August 9, 2012.

d. Ryan Lott (Gateway Teacher Aide) effective August 9, 2012.

Roll call: Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Flowers, King and Neill voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Employment of Personnel and Approval of Volunteer: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Tsung, to employ the following personnel and volunteer as presented:

a. Terica Doyle, Assistant Principal--Retroactively employ Terica Doyle as an Assistant Principal for the period of 10.5 months, effective August 6, 2012 through June 30, 2013, at a salary of $64,000.00 (includes TRS).

b. Tracy Robinson, Library Technician--Retroactively employ Tracy Robinson as a Library Technician (a 12-month, full-time position) for the 2012-13 school year effective August 6, 2012, at the hourly rate of $9.87.

c. 2012-13 Driver Education Behind-the-Wheel Faculty--Personnel as presented: Mark Albertini, Mike Butler, Cliff Davis, Greg Storm, Kim Wheeler

d. 2012-13 Teacher Aide Personnel--Retroactively employ the following teacher aide personnel for the 2012-13 school year effective August 13, 2012, at the hourly rate of $9.32:
