MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD MARCH 16, 2006

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, March 16, 2006, at 7:00 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following members were present: Barbara Bennett, Robert Brewer, Linda Brandon and Barbara Levine. The following members were absent: Henry Bell, Jr., Peter Hsin and Mike Durr. Also present were: Steven Sabens, Steve Kosco and the Southern Illinoisan Representative.

President Levine declared a quorum present and the regular meeting of March 16, 2006, was called to order.

Minutes: The minutes of the regular rescheduled meeting of February 22, 2006 were approved as distributed.

Recognitions: Superintendent Sabens commended CCHS senior, Iboro Umana, who was named to the IHSA All-State Academic Team; CCHS junior, Justin Stoncius, who was chosen for Team Illinois; and, to the CCHS Scholar Bowl Team, who for the second year in a row, were competing in the AA IHSA State Finals in Peoria on March 18, 2006.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Brandon, seconded by Bennett, to pay the remaining bills for the month of February, 2006; and, those available for payment for the month of March, 2006. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Approval of Summer Maintenance Work/Projects: Motion by Brandon, seconded by Bennett, to approve the list of summer maintenance work/projects as presented, including authorization to solicit bids/quotes for specific projects as necessary. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

American Red Cross Use Of Facilities Agreement: Motion by Bennett, seconded by Brandon, to approve the Statement Of Agreement For Use Of Facilities As Mass Care Shelters, Kitchen Sites, Service Centers, Or Headquarters with the American Red Cross. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Approval of 2006-07 IHSA Membership: Motion by Brewer, seconded by Bennett, to continue membership in the IHSA for the 2006-07 school year. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Amend 2005-06 School Calendar: Motion by Brewer, seconded by Brandon, to amend the 2005-06 school calendar as presented. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Approval of 2006-07 School Calendar: Motion by Bennett, seconded by Brandon, to approve the 2006-07 school calendar as presented. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

First Reading of District Board Policy Revisions: The Board of Education received revisions for Board of Education Policies 2:30, 2:50, 2:210, 4:60, 4:150, 5:90, 5:100, 5:280, 6:50, 6:100, 6:180 and 8:90 for their review and first reading.

Terrier Care Dental Services: Motion by Bennett, seconded by Brandon, to amend the April, 2005 School Based Health Service Agreement with Shawnee Health Service, expanding the services provided by Terrier Care to include oral health care, as presented. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Retirement: Motion by Brandon, seconded by Brewer, to accept the letter of retirement from Claudia Broom (guidance counselor) effective at the end of the 2005-06 school year. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Resignation: Motion by Brewer, seconded by Brandon, to accept the resignation of Rivanna Abel social studies teacher) effective at the end of the 2005-06 school year. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer and Levine voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.
