MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHEDULED MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD JUNE 15, 2011

The regular scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. An executive session preceded the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following members were present: Kathy Booziotis, Vicky King, Mike Durr, William Sherwood, Linda Flowers, Francis Tsung. The following member was absent: Mike Neill. Also present were: Stephen Murphy andSteve Kosco.

President Sherwood declared a quorum present and the regular scheduled meeting of June 15, 2011 was called to order.

Executive Session: Motion by Durr, seconded by Booziotis, to go into executive session for the purpose of considering information regarding the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees. Roll call: Booziotis, Durr, Flowers, King, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Member Answers Roll Call: Member Neill answered roll call at 6:34 p.m.

Public Portion of the Meeting Convenes: The public portion of the meeting convened at 7:15 p.m. President Sherwood stated no action was taken.

Minutes: The minutes of the regular meeting of May 18, 2011, were approved as distributed.

Executive Session Minutes: Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to approve the minutes of the executive session held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Roll call: Durr, Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Flowers, to pay the remaining bills for the month of May, 2011; and, those available for payment for the month of June, 2011. Roll call: Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis and Durr voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Superintendent Contract Resolution: Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to approve the Resolution Authorizing Amendment To And Readoption Of Superintendent’s Contract as presented. Roll call: King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Durr and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2011-2012 Fitness Reimbursement: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Flowers, to approve the payment of $10.00 per month or the actual cost of the program (if less than $10.00 per month) to each District 165 employee participating in an approved physical fitness program for the 2011-12 school year. Roll call: Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Durr, Flowers and King voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Permission To Bid Exercise Equipment: Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to solicit bids for exercise equipment as requested in Mr. Kosco’s memo. Roll call: Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Durr, Flowers, King and Neill voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2011-2012 Prevailing Wage Resolution: Motion by Durr, seconded by Neill, to adopt the Annual Prevailing Wage Resolution as presented. Roll call: Tsung, Booziotis, Durr, Flowers, King, Neill and Sherwood voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2011-2012 School Fees: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Durr, to approve the following school fees for the 2011-2012 school year:

Student Registration $28.00

Driver Education Fee $20.00

Student Lunch, Regular $1.75

Student Lunch, Reduced $0.40

Student Breakfast, Regular $1.00

Student Breakfast, Reduced $0.30

Student Milk $0.25

Adult Lunch $2.00

Adult Breakfast $1.50

Adult Milk $0.25

Roll call: Booziotis, Durr, Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Personnel: Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to approve the indicated action regarding the following personnel as presented:

1. Retirement Change in Date--Accept the letter from Dan Cross (assistant principal) requesting to change his date of retirement from October, 2013 to July 1, 2014.

2. Resignations--Accept the letters of resignation as presented:

a. Leigh Taylor (reading teacher) effective June 3, 2011.

b. Margaret Mayhugh (cook helper) effective at the end of the 2010-11 school year.

3. Employment of Personnel

a. Holly Coleman, Full-time French Teacher--Ms. Coleman will be employed as a full-time French teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Ms. Coleman’s education and experience will place her at line 0, column MA/MS on the teacher salary schedule.

b. Michael Butler, Full-time Social Studies Teacher--Mr. Butler will be employed as a full-time social studies teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Mr. Butler’s education and experience will place him at line 0, column BA/BS+24 on the teacher salary schedule.

c. Michelle Stevens, Part-time (4/6-time) Business Teacher--Ms. Stevens will be employed as a part-time (4/6-time) business teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Ms. Stevens’ education and experience will place her at line 1.5, column BA/BS prorated on the teacher salary schedule.

d. Jane Rendon, Part-time (3/6-time) Spanish Teacher--Ms. Rendon will be employed as a part-time (3/6-time) Spanish teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Ms. Rendon’s education and experience will place her at line 1.5, column BA/BS+24 prorated on the teacher salary schedule.

e. Dennis Johnson, Part-time (2/6-time) Mathematics Teacher--Mr. Johnson will be employed as a part-time (2/6-time) mathematics teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Mr. Johnson’s education and experience will place him at line 22, column MA/MS+24 prorated on the teacher salary schedule.

f. Carlyn Zimmermann, Part-time (3/6-time) Chorus Teacher--Ms. Zimmermann will be employed as a part-time (3/6-time) chorus teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Ms. Zimmermann’s education and experience will place her at line 8.5, column MA/MS on the teacher salary schedule.
