MINUTES OF THE REGULAR RESCHEDULED MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD JUNE 26, 2008 The regular rescheduled meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Upon roll call, the following members were present: Barbara Bennett, Mike Durr, Linda Brandon, Linda Flowers, Robert Brewer and Kenneth Hughes. The following member was absent: Barbara Levine. Also present were: Steven R. Sabens, Vicky King, Steve Kosco and David Craig. Vice President Bennett acted as President Pro Tem in President Levine’s absence. President Bennett declared a quorum present and the regular rescheduled meeting of June 26, 2008 was called to order. Minutes: The corrected minutes of the regular meeting of May 15, 2008 were approved as distributed. Correspondence: The Board received newsletters for their review from the science, career and technical education and social studies departments. Payment of Bills: Motion by Brandon, seconded by Durr, to pay the remaining bills for the month of May, 2008; and, those available for payment for the month of June, 2008. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr, Flowers and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Committee Reports: Motion by Hughes, seconded by Durr, to approve the committee reports/recommendations on the Handbooks, Wellness/Fitness and Building and Grounds, as presented: 1) 2008-09 Student-Athlete Handbook and 2008-09 Parent/Teacher/Student Handbook--With the proposed changes as presented. 2) 2008-09 Wellness/Fitness--Approval of the payment of $10.00 per month or the actual cost of the program (if less than $10.00 per month) to each District 165 employee participating in an approved physical fitness program for the 2007-08 school year. 3) Building and Grounds--Approval of the Application for Building Permit for the Rebound Roof and the CCHS All-Weather Track. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr, Flowers and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Prevailing Wage Resolution: Motion by Durr, seconded by Brandon, to adopt the Annual Prevailing Wage Resolution as presented. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr, Flowers and Hughes voted yes. Approval of 2008-2009 School Fees: Motion by Durr, seconded by Flowers, to approve the following school fees for the 2008-2009 school year: Student Registration $28.00; Driver Education Fee $20.00; Student Lunch, Regular $1.50; Student Lunch, Reduced $.40; Student Breakfast, Regular $1.00; Student Breakfast, Reduced $.30; Student Milk $.25; Adult Lunch $2.00; Adult Breakfast $1.50; Adult Milk $.25. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr, Flowers and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. District Policy Updates: The Board of Education received updates/revisions to Board of Education Policies 4:150, 5:190, 6:210, 7:10, 7:100, 7:330, 8:30 and 8:40 for first reading. Bowling Team: Motion by Durr, seconded by Hughes, to approve the addition of an IHSA Bowling Team (boys and girls) to the CCHS athletic programs as presented. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr, Flowers and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Retirement Date Change Motion by Durr, seconded by Flowers, to approve the change in date of retirement for Scott Ellis (guidance counselor) from the end of the 2008-2009 school year to the end of the first quarter of the 2010-2011 school year. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr, Flowers and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Resignations/Retirements: Motion by Brandon, seconded by Durr, to accept the following resignations/retirements as presented: a. Resignation of Amber Webel (guidance counselor) effective at the end of the 2007-2008 school year. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr, Flowers and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Employments: Motion by Durr, seconded by Hughes, to employ the following personnel as presented: a. Crystal Swan-Gravatt, Assistant to the Director of Student Services and Programs--Employ Ms. Swan-Gravatt as Assistant to the Director of Student Services and Programs for the period of 12 months, July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2008, at a salary of $79,470.00 (includes TRS). b. Jamie Hogue, Temporary Full-time Guidance Counselor (Leave of Absence Position)--Employ Jamie Hogue as a temporary full-time guidance counselor, subject to receipt of proper Illinois certification, to fill the leave of absence of Erinn Murphy for the 2008-09 school year as needed. Mr. Hogue’s education and experience will place him at line zero, column MA/MS on the teacher salary schedule. c. Lori Koester, Full-time Guidance Counselor--Employ Lori Koester as a full-time guidance counselor for the 2008-09 school year. Ms. Koester’s education and experience will place her at line 14, column MA/MS+24 on the teacher salary schedule. d. Gloria Jones, Full-time Art Teacher--Employ Gloria Jones as a full-time art teacher for the 2008-09 school year. Ms. Jones’ education and experience will place her at line nine, column MA/MS on the teacher salary schedule. e. Leigh Taylor, Full-time Reading Teacher--Employ Leigh Taylor as a full-time reading teacher, subject to receipt of proper Illinois certification, for the 2008-09 school year. Ms. Taylor’s education and experience will place her at line one, column MA/MS on the teacher salary schedule. f.
