NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

THIS MONTH'S ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB CHALLENGE is to "Ditch Plastic Bottles". Every day Americans use enough plastic bottles to circle the equator, 25,000 miles, and most end up in landfills and the ocean. The challenge is to try to remove single use plastic bottles from your day/week/life. 

MR. CCHS CONTESTANTS AND ESCORTS, T-shirt order forms are due today, Friday, January 18th.  Please give orders & money to either Mrs. Antrim (J130 in Counseling) or Mrs. Segelken in the Media Center.

SUPPORT THE SOPHOMORE CLASS AND SPANISH CLUB today, by purchasing pizza at lunch.  We will be selling pizza for $2 a slice and soda/water for $1.  A whole pizza and 4 drinks for $15.  Thank you in advance!

SHOW CHOIR: You are invited to a night on the town in New York, New York; Broadway style right here in the CCHS auditorium tonight, Friday, January 18  and tomorrow, Saturday, January 19th at 7:30 p.m.  The Show Choir presents 'Regards to Broadway,' a musical revue of songs from 'The Sound of Music' to 'Hamilton.'  Tickets are $5 and are available in the choir room B110, during both lunches from January 14-18, and at the door.

THIS SATURDAY, JANUARY 19TH CARBONDALE'S WOMEN UNITED NETWORK will host the 3rd annual Women's March at the Carbondale Civic Center. The goal of the Women's March is to encourage unity, equity, justice, and equal rights. A community engagement fair and sign making will take place from 11 am - 1 pm, and participants will gather to march starting at 1 pm. If you are interested in participating in the March or volunteering, please see Ms. Geiselman. All are welcome to attend.

THE MEDIA CENTER will close at 11:00 am (during lunch A) and reopen at noon on Tuesday, January 22nd. Then, it will close again at 5:00 pm for a meeting.   

REMINDER…THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL THIS MONDAY, JANUARY 21st, in honor of the late Martin Luther King’s birthday. 

THERE WILL BE A MEETING OF THE JUNIOR CLASS on Tuesday, January 22nd during SSR (12:45-1:00) You will be dismissed by an announcement.  

TRACK & FIELD:  Anyone interested in track and field this year, tryouts will begin Tuesday, January 22nd from 3:15-4:45 and will go through the rest of the week.  We will meet upstairs outside the driver's ed room. Any questions please see Coach Arvanis.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB will have an important planning meeting this Tuesday, January 22nd, right after school in the Walnut Street Hallway. 

SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: Summer Honor's Institute information was emailed to you. The Summer Honor's institute at JALC typically allows students with a 3.25 overall GPA, OR a 25 composite ACT score, OR SAT score of 1200 to take up to 8 hours of college courses, tuition free. Check your email for more information.

PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

APPLICATIONS TO BE A FRESHMEN MENTOR FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR are now available to be picked up in the Principal's Office.  Members of the Class of 2020 and 2021 can apply to be a mentor.  If you were a mentor last year, you will need to apply again for next year.  An application will be sent to you in class today.  All completed applications must be turned in to Mr. Thomas' Office by the end of school on Friday, February 15th.  See Mrs. B. Jones or Mr. Terry with any questions.

TERRIER TALENT SHOW AUDITIONS: Want to win $250?  Then sign up to audition for the Terrier Talent Show.  Audition signs-up will be held during both lunch hours, across from the cafeteria Tuesday, January 22nd and Wednesday, January 23rd.  Check your CCHS email or the flyers around the school for more details.  The auditions will be held after school in the auditorium Monday January 28th - Thursday, January 31st.  The Terrier Talent Show will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at 6:30 pm.

ATTENTION ALL JV SCIENCE TEAM MEMBERS: There will be a mandatory meeting on Thursday January 31st, right after school in D207. 

WEIGHT TRAINING has resumed after school, beginning at 3:15 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  There will be no workouts on days of early dismissal. 

ATTENTIONAL ALL STUDENTS: Be sure to stop by your counselor's table outside of the cafeteria this week to pick up your updated transcript. Your transcript reflects information that is important for you to know such as credits earned, all of your grades and your updated grade point average. Your counselor is looking forward to seeing you at lunch this week!

ATTENTION JUNIORS: We need your help in the concession stand!  Remember you get $5.00 toward your Prom Ticket for every game worked!  There are additional Girls and Freshman Basketball games available check the Jr Class Bulletin Board for opportunities! Sign-up on the bulletin board to work!  If you sign up...show up! Varsity Basketball Games all start at 6:15 the stand opens at 5:30. The following Varsity Basketball Games are left this year! 1/11, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22   Officers you are required to work the above games or arrange for a substitute (no girls or freshman game substitutions allowed)! Questions see Mrs. McGee or Ms. Love.

CLASS OF 2021: HOBY, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership State Leadership Seminar will be accepting registrations from parents seeking HOBY experience for their children beginning in January of 2019. CCHS is allowed to register 2 students outside their current nominees. Congratulations Will Bowlby & Saja Naser as being named the Class of 2021 HOBY nominees. Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs provide students the opportunity to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. The State Leadership Seminar is 3-4 days of fun, interactive leadership training, meeting state leaders, and making new friends (Dates: 6/13/2019 - 6/16/2019 at Illinois Wesleyan University). THE CCHS "LATE BUS" runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays.  It departs Giant City entrance at 5:00 and makes various stops around Carbondale and De Soto.  The late bus is available for anyone attending Terrier Tutoring, clubs, or athletics.

SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND SENIORS!  Be sure to login to Naviance regularly to check out the college visit opportunities this fall.  To receive a pass to meet with admission representatives you MUST register through your Naviance account.  These meetings are a great way to learn more about your college options and to demonstrate interest in specific colleges and universities.  See your counselor or Ms. Murphy with any questions.
