MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHEDULED MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD JUNE 21, 2012

The regular scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. An executive session preceded the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following members were present: Kathy Booziotis, Mike Neill, Linda Flowers, William Sherwood Vicky King. The following members were absent: Mike Durr and Francis Tsung

Also present were: Stephen Murphy, CCHSEA Represented, Steve Kosco, Carbondale Times Newspaper, Daniel Booth

President Sherwood declared a quorum present and the regular scheduled meeting of June 21, 2012 was called to order.

Executive Session: Motion by Neill, seconded by Flowers, to go into executive session for the purpose of considering information regarding the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, King, Neill and Sherwood voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Member Answers Roll Call: Member Tsung answered roll call at 6:35 p.m.

Public Portion of the Meeting Convenes: The public portion of the meeting convened at 7:33 p.m. President Sherwood stated no action was taken while in executive session.

Minutes: The minutes of the regular meeting of May 17, 2012, were approved as distributed.

Executive Session Minutes: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Flowers, to approve the minutes of the executive session held on Thursday, June 21, 2012. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Old Business: There were no old business items.

Recognitions/Correspondence: There were no recognition or correspondence items.

Public Comments: There were no public comments.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Neill, to pay the remaining bills for the month of May, 2012; and, those available for payment for the month of June, 2012. Roll call: Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2012-13 Fitness Reimbursement: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to approve the payment of $10.00 per month or the actual cost of the program (if less than $10.00 per month) to each District 165 employee participating in an approved physical fitness program for the 2012-13 school year.Roll call: King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Tennis Court Resurfacing Bid: Motion by King, seconded by Flowers, to award the bid for tennis court resurfacing to General Acrylics of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, in the amount of $39,473.75, as presented. Roll call: Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Flowers and King voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Lawn Equipment Quotes: Motion by Neill, seconded by Tsung, to accept the quotes for lawn equipment from Coleman Lawn Equipment in the amount of $9,695.00 and Grass Roots Baseball, Inc. in the amount of $8,800.00 for the purchase of lawn equipment, as presented. Roll call: Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Flowers, King and Neill voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2012-13 Prevailing Wage Resolution: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to adopt the Annual Prevailing Wage Resolution as presented. Roll call: Tsung, Booziotis, Flowers, King, Neill and Sherwood voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2012-13 School Fees: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Neill, to approve the following school fees for the 2012-13 school year: Student Registration $28.00; Driver Education Fee $20.00; Student Lunch, Regular $2.00; Student Lunch, Reduced $0.40; Student Breakfast, Regular $1.00; Student Breakfast, Reduced $0.30; Student Milk $0.25; Adult Lunch $2.00; Adult Breakfast $1.50; Adult Milk $0.25. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

District Policy Updates/Revisions: The Board received updates/revisions to Board of Education Policies 4:120, 6:235, 7:220 and 7:340 for first reading.

School Resource Officer Intergovernmental Agreement: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Tsung, to approve the
School Resource Officer Intergovernmental Agreement between CCHS District 165 and the Carbondale Police Department as presented. Roll call: Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Resignation: Motion by King, seconded by Neill, to accept the letter of resignation from Tamecca Garrison (Guidance Department Secretary) effective June 29, 2012, as presented. Roll call: King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Employment of Personnel and Approval of Volunteer Coaches: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Neill, to approve the indicated employment action regarding the following personnel and to approve the volunteer coaches as presented:

a. Stephanie Finke, Assistant Principal--Employ Ms. Finke as an Assistant Principal for the period of 10.5 months, July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013, at a salary of $64,000.00 (includes TRS).

b. Brandon Lukes, Full-time Temporary English Teacher--Employ Mr. Lukes as a full-time temporary English teacher for the 2012-13 school year. Mr. Lukes' education and experience will place him at line 0, column MA/MS on the teacher salary schedule.

c. Jane Rendon, Full-time Temporary Spanish Teacher--Employ Ms. Rendon as a full-time temporary Spanish teacher for the 2012-13 school year. Ms. Rendon’s education and experience will place her at line 2.5, column BA/BS+24 prorated on the teacher salary schedule.

d. Brandi Jones, Full-time Temporary Special Education Teacher--Employ Ms. Jones as a full-time temporary special education teacher for the 2012-13 school year. Ms. Jones’ education and experience will place her at line one, column BA/BS+24 on the teacher salary schedule.

e. Deloris May, Part-time (2/6-time) Latin Teacher--Employ Ms. May as a part-time (2/6-time) Latin teacher for the 2012-13 school year. Ms. May’s education and experience will place her at line 14, column MA/MS+24 prorated on the teacher salary schedule.

f. Dennis Johnson, Part-time (2/6-time) Mathematics Teacher--Employ Mr. Johnson as a part-time (2/6-time) mathematics teacher for the 2012-13 school year. Mr. Johnson's education and experience will place him at line 22, column MA/MS+24 prorated on the teacher salary schedule.

g. Carlyn Zimmermann, Part-time (3/6-time) Chorus Teacher--Employ Ms. Zimmermann as a part-time (3/6-time) chorus teacher for 2012-13 school year. Ms. Zimmermann's education and experience will place her at line 9 column MA/MS prorated on the teacher salary schedule.
