MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD AUGUST 18, 2011

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following members were present: Kathy Booziotis, Mike Neill, Mike Durr, William Sherwood, Linda Flowers, Francis Tsung, Vicky King.

Also present were: Stephen Murphy, CCHSEA Represented, Steve Kosco, Southern Illinoisan Represented, Daniel Booth

President Sherwood declared a quorum present and the regular meeting of August 18, 2011 was called to order.

Minutes: The minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of July 21, 2011 were approved as distributed.

Old Business: There were no old business items.

Recognitions/Correspondence: There were no recognition or correspondence items.

Public Comments: There were no public comments.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to pay the remaining bills for the month of July, 2011; and, those available for payment for the month of August, 2011. Roll call: Booziotis, Durr, Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Committee Reports: There were no committee reports.

Bids and Quotes: There were no bids or quotes.

Presentation of the 2011-12 Tentative Budget for Public Display: Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to receive the tentative budget for the 2011-12 school year, place it on display for the public at the district office, the high school office, and the Carbondale Public Library, and to hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Roll call: Durr, Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Approval of August 2011 Graduates:Motion by Durr, seconded by Tsung, to approve the following students for August 18, 2011 graduation: Dustin Michael Avery, Jenna Lee Ann Reeves, Emily Ruth Dix, Devon Robinson,John Kory Fox, Samantha Ashley Rooney, Paul M. Herron, Ryan Hunter Royce-Bemis, Marissa Paige Jackson, Monique D.L. Smith, Machia Ashley McClaine, Nathaniel Adrian Suggs, Emilee Dawn Qualls, Jalen Marcus White, Miquel Angel Ramirez. Roll call: Flowers, King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis and Durr voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

CCHS District 165 FY11 Compensation Report: The Board received a copy of the CCHS District 165 FY11 Compensation Report for their review.

Resignations: Motion by Durr, seconded by Booziotis, to accept the following resignations as presented:

a. Jennifer Wilson (CTE Director/Department Chair/Wellness and New Teacher Coordinator/Business Education Teacher) effective July 19, 2011.

b. Jason Geis (E.O.C. Aide) effective August 9, 2011.

Roll call: King, Neill, Sherwood, Tsung, Booziotis, Durr and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried

Employments: Motion by Durr, seconded by Booziotis, to approve the following employment action:

a. Michelle Stevens: Full-time Business Teacher--Ms. Stevens will be retroactively employed effective August 15, 2011, as a full-time business teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Ms. Stevens’ education and experience will place her at line 1.5, column BA/BS prorated on the teacher salary schedule.

b. Brian Rick: Part-time (2/6-time) Industrial Technology Teacher, Part-time (3/6-time) Carl Perkins Grant Teacher Aide, Part-time (1/6-time) SSP Teacher Aide: 1. Part-time (2/6-time) Industrial Technology Teacher--Mr. Rick will be retroactively employed effective August 15, 2011, as a part-time (2/6-time) industrial technology teacher for the 2011-12 school year. Mr. Rick's education and experience will place him at line two, column BA/BS prorated on the teacher salary schedule.2. Part-time (3/6-time) Carl Perkins Grant Teacher Aide--Mr. Rick will be retroactively employed effective August 15, 2011, as a part-time (3/6-time) Carl Perkins Grant Teacher Aide at the rate of $9.32 per hour. 3. Part-time (1/6-time) Student Services & Programs Teacher Aide--Mr. Rick will be retroactively employed effective August 15, 2011, as a part-time (1/6-time) SSP Teacher Aide at the rate of $9.32 per hour.

c. Aide Personnel – 2011-2012--Personnel as presented: E.O.C. Aide: Michael Peterson $9.32/Hour (Employment is retroactive to August 15, 2011.)

d. Driver Education Behind-the-Wheel Faculty – 2011-2012--Personnel as presented: Mark Albertini, Mike Butler, Greg Storm, Bob Taylor, Kim Wheeler

e. Rebound Grant Personnel – 2011-2012--Personnel as presented contingent upon grant funding and student enrollment, with reduced hours during the months when evening classes are not in session and during the summer (Tentative dates of employment: August 1, 2011-July 30, 2012):

Candy Calcaterra, Guidance Counselor--37.5 Hours Week @ $19.10/Hour

Judy Randall, GED/ESL/Workforce Coordinator--36 Hours/Week @ $22.79/Hour

Sandra Snowden, Family Services Coordinator--36 Hours/Week @ $19.38/Hour

Stephanie Franklin, Family Services Educator--35 Hours/Week @ $17.23/Hour

Rob Gruny, Social Studies Teacher--36 Hours/Week @ $23.93/Hour
