MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD AUGUST 17, 2006

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, August 17, 2006, at 7:00 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following members were present: Barbara Bennett, Mike Durr, Linda Brandon, Kenneth Hughes and Robert Brewer.

The following members were absent: Henry Bell, Jr. and Barbara Levine.

Also present were: Steven R. Sabens, David Craig, Steve Kosco, Southern Illinoisan Represented and Vicky King.

President Bennett declared a quorum present and the regular meeting of August 17, 2006 was called to order.

Public Portion of the Meeting Convenes: The public portion of the meeting convened at 7:00 p.m.

Vice President Bennett acted as President Pro Tem in President Levine’s absence.

Introduction of New Faculty: Ms. King introduced the new faculty members to the Board of Education.

Minutes: The minutes of the regular meeting of July 20, 2006 were approved as distributed.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Brandon, seconded by Hughes, to pay the remaining bills for the month of July, 2006; and, those available for payment for the month of August, 2006. Roll call: Brandon, Bennett, Brewer, Durr and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Awarding of Climbing Wall Bid: Motion by Durr, seconded by Brandon, to award the bid for a climbing wall to Everlast Climbing Industries, Inc. in the amount of $19,499.00. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Presentation of the 2006-07 Tentative Budget for Public Display: Motion by Durr, seconded by Hughes, to receive the tentative budget for the 2006-07 school year, place it on display for the public at the district office, the high school office, and the Carbondale Public Library, and to hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Approval of August 2006 Graduates: Motion by Brandon, seconded by Durr, to approve the following students for August 17, 2006 graduation: Nathan Gregory Anheuser, Stanley Darnell Schauf, John Paul Attig, Amelia Denise Smith, Destiney Sade’ Baker, Sammie Jo Halliday, Jeffrey James Bell, Amanda Joy Hildebrandt, Samantha Joyce Louise Biermann, Virgil Lee Howell, Hallee Janine Cooley, Alexandra Jean Loftus, Brian Keith Delmore and Joshua Lee Wooley. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Enterprise Zone Resolution: Motion by Durr, seconded by Brewer, to approve the Enterprise Zone Resolution as presented. Roll call: Bennett, Brandon, Brewer, Durr and Hughes voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Employments: Motion by Hughes, seconded by Durr, to retroactively (August 16, 2006) employ the following driver education behind-the-wheel faculty, teacher aides and hall/weight room/ACR monitors, Rebound grant personnel and extra-duty/extended-time personnel for the 2006-07 school year:

a. Driver Education Behind-the-Wheel Faculty--Personnel: Larry Jackson, Robert Taylor and Michael Butler

b. Teacher Aide and Hall/Weight Room/ACR Monitor Personnel--Personnel: Lorena Masterson, Perkins Grant Teacher Aide--35 Hours/Week @ $8.68/Hour

c. Rebound Grant Personnel--The employment of the following Rebound grant personnel is contingent upon grant funding and student enrollment; with employment period of August 14, 2006 through August 14, 2007, with reduced hours during the summer: Bob Chamberlin, Social Studies Teacher--36 Hours/Week @ $26.13/Hour; Rob Gruny, English/Computers Teacher--36 Hours/Week @ $21.95/Hour; Judy Randall, GED/ESL/Workforce Coordinator--36 Hours/Week @ $20.91/Hour; Leah Stallman, Social Worker--36 Hours/Week @ $18.87/Hour; Sandra Snowden, Family Services Coordinator--36 Hours/Week @ $17.79/Hour; Marla Martin, Health/Consumer/Reading Teacher--36 Hours/Week @ $17.27/Hour; Mark Hutchings, GED Teacher at Gateway--35 Hours/Week @ $17.27/Hour; Mary Jo Peterson, ESL Teacher at Bowen GMCC--15 Hours/Week @ $17.27/Hour; Candy Calcaterra, Guidance Counselor--37.5 Hours/Week @ $17.51/Hour; Betty Harris, Evening GED Teacher--6 Hours/Week @ $16.28/Hour; Aseedaw Deal, Math/Science Teacher--36 Hours/Week @ 15.81/Hour; Kenitra Woods, GED Teacher--36 Hours/Week @ $15.81/Hour; Stephanie Franklin, Family Services Educator--36 Hours/Week @ $15.81/Hour; To Be Named (2), ESL Teacher at Unity Point--12 Hours/Week @ $15.35/Hour; To Be Named (1), ESL Teacher at Bowen GMCC--12 Hours/Week @ $15.35/Hour; Lilly Dunkel, Student Worker--4-7 Hours/Day @ Minimum Wage Rate of Pay.

Boys Basketball Coach: Joe Hamilton; Asst. Boys Basketball Coach: Ty Moss; Asst. Boys Basketball Coach: Mike Butler (1/2 stipend); Daniel Booth (1/2 stipend); Asst. Girls Basketball Coach: Mark Albertini; Asst. Wrestling Coach: Gary Holda; Head Baseball Coach: Scott Hankey; Asst.
