Carbondale Quizbowl Team Gearing Up for Nationals

A team from Carbondale Community High School will be competing at high school quizbowl nationals, the National Scholastic Championship (NSC), on June 2nd and 3rd. NSC will be held in Reston, Virginia at the Hyatt Regency Reston. Carbondale quizbowlers will compete against more than 90 other high school teams from around the country and the world.

Carbondale’s team took 55th place at the tournament last year. Expectations are even higher this year, with Carbondale ranked 52nd in the nation in an April ranking of teams.

Carbondale’s team is comprised of senior Jaden Lucas and sophomores Niko Johnson-Fuller and Charles Metz.

Those not attending NSC may follow select games of NSC through a liveblog on Twitter at @PACENSC and via livestream on YouTube Live.

Quizbowl is an academic competition played between two teams of up to 4 players. Players buzz in on questions, which cover a wide range of academic topics including literature, history, science, and the arts.

Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence (PACE), founded in 1996 by a volunteer group of players and coaches, has been promoting high school quizbowl for nearly 20 years. In addition to running the annual National Scholastic Championship, PACE recognizes high-quality local tournaments and sponsors the Quizbowl Resource Center, a hub for tournaments, question sets, and discussion.
