2006 CCHS Volleyball

Season Summary

 

Freshman

 

The freshman team ended their season with an overall record of 4 wins and 11 losses, and a conference record of 4 wins and 4 losses. 

 

 

Junior Varsity

 

The Junior Varsity team began the season on a high note, taking 1st place in the John A. Logan Invitational Tournament.  Sophomore Anna Hatfield received special recognition and was named to the JALC All Tournament Team. 

 

Big wins of the season for the junior varsity team included Murphysboro, Farmington, and Collinsville.  The team ended their season with an overall record of 15 wins and 4 losses, and a conference record of 5 wins and 3 losses.   

 

 

Varsity

 

The Varsity team had an outstanding year, creating a new school won-loss record of 33-4.  The team went 8-0 in conference play, clenching the South Seven conference title.

 

The season began on a strong note with the CCHS varsity team winning 1st place at Carbondale’s own Southern Illinois Preview Tournament.  The terriers continued to improve throughout the season, winning 1st place at the Benton Rangerette Classic as well as 2nd place at the Lake Zurich Invitational Volleyball Tournament in Chicago.  The team also took 6th place at the Quincy Notre Dame Classic. 

 

Big wins during regular season included Murphysboro, Farmington, Belleville Althoff, and Collinsville. 

 

The terriers defeated Mt. Vernon in the 1st round of the IHSA Regionals, but fell short to Mascoutah in the 2nd round, ending the magical season for the CCHS varsity team.

 

Several varsity players earned individual honors and awards throughout the season.  Senior Christy Long, along with juniors Megan Hughes and Malaikah Love, were named to the All South SICA Volleyball Team, South Seven All Conference First Team, and Benton Rangerette Classic All Tournament Team.  Freshman Alli Ragan was named to the South Seven All Conference Second Team while senior teammate Lindsey Qualls was named to the South Seven All Conference Honorable Mention.

 

Christy Long and Malaikah Love were also named to the Southern Illinois Preview Tournament All Tournament Team as well as the Quincy Notre Dame All Tournament Team.  Christy Long was named to the Second Team Champaign News Gazette All State Team while Malaikah Love was named to the Honorable Mention Champaign News Gazette All State Team.  In addition, Christy Long was also named to the Honorable Mention Chicago Tribune All State Team as well as named 2006 Southern Illinois Volleyball Player of the Year.
